What's Normal mpg?

well on mine there is one on each down pipe accessible from below the car and both are before the cat converter. They are about 4inch long cylinder metal tubes with wires coming out the back end.

So far I am getting just about 20 MPG around here. Thats mixed driving with a lot of curvy hilly roads.

back to the O2 Sensor... what is the averge milage that the sensor should be changed?

My 89 ranger (bought new) has 182,000 miles now. Its still factory, so I doubt it works any more. LOL

O2 sensors are pretty disposable tune up items, they should be replaced without a doubt by 100k. Most recommendations are 60k..some cars 40k...I just did mine today there's these really stupid zipties that hold the connector down so you can't easily disconnect it behind the engine. They were a pain till I got vise grips on the old connector and just yanked them to shreds.

Sensor came out easy by running the engine 2 minutes and putting some rust gel on it a few days earlier to undo any rustwelding. Used a special 7/8inch O2 socket and this seemed to help get a no slip grip on it.

This Ford explorer is getting terrible gas mileage like 10mpg city, I'm thinking the oxy sensors will help the matters but what is it supposed to be normally? Someone told me that 10mpg is what he gets on his new Ford, I find that rediculously bad, as I get very very good mpg on my VW.

When my 91 dropped from 23-24mpg to 13mpg, the guys on here told me it was probably the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) and right they were. I also had to clean the O2 sensor. I was going to change it but no matter what I tried I could not get my hand to the place were the wire connected to disconnect it. So I removed the business from the exhaust, put some electrical cleaner on a very soft cloth and cleaned it. It's still in there today and that was about 80K miles ago. I'm currently getting 20-22mpg. It's down a little from what I used to get but it does have 208K miles on it. Has the vehicle ever got good mileage?
