As far as I know 1997 was the first year for the SOHC V6.
The SOHC engine remained the same from '97 through at least '10 so it should bolt in, however you will want to swap over many of the peripheral parts from your old engine to the newer one or you will run into compatibility issues with wiring, connectors and lines.
I wouldn't install a used SOHC engine w/out first replacing all the timing chain components (regardless of year). I'd also install a new oil pump. water pump and thermostat while they're easy to get to.
