I really like my BFG Mud's, they give a pretty cool look, and I haven't had any problems, going through Mud/Sand/Rocks/Dirt, my recommendation. Also still keeps the street in mind at the same time.

good mud and SNOW for roadtrips?

it it true, that if its good in mud, its good in snow? so if its good in mud and the street, it should be good in snow, and the street?

BFG A/T good everywhere... will last a little longer than the MT but not much... its very sticky

I have 31x 10.5 Goodyear MTRs on my Ranger. It is a work truck and gets lots of highway miles. I have almost 30,000 miles and expect to get 50,000. They are nothing special on road, (remind me of the Firestone Wilderness AT). Off road they are supperior. They are expensive.

i like my bfg ATs a lot, but i'm getting something more aggressive soon. the ATs will get you a LOT of miles on them. mine have somewhere around 40k and they look like they have over half tread still there! good on road and mild offroad. look great. expensive. mine howl a little at the sub 20mph range. they won't clean out in mud if that matters.

you dont want the goodyear mtrs... especially if your is going to be mostly street..... get some kind of at.... the mtrs are a good harder core tire not suited for street

They were about $170 retail. I got them at the local Goodyear dealer. They were were part of the Firestone Wilderness AT recall. They ended up costing me $60 each for everything. For what it is worth, I got BFG KM 33x12.5x15 for $144 at Mega-lo-Mart (Costco) for my X.

You will loose about 2MPG with MT's, any MT, also MT's are softer material than an AT. If you are going to run mostly road, then get an AT type of tire.
There is not such thing as a all purpose tire that can be good at road, snow and mud. The BFG KO is good for on road/offroad and even snow, but is not that good with mud, especially clay type mud. An Mt is good for offroad snow and mud, but it is not that great for Street. Wears out fast and is noiseier than an AT on the road.
Try this instead, get some cheap steel wheels and buy some MT's for just wheeling, then switch them out with a set of AT and your good wheel for around town and highway use.

I'm fairly new to Explorers. When I bought mine in July, the Ford dealer put on 4 new BFG AT-TKO's on it and they were the worst tires I have ever used in the rain. My previous vehicle was a '94 Beretta Z26 and I used Toyo Proxies. I went out and got the best truck tire Toyo made, the Toyo AT Open Country. I can't get the X to slide in the rain, no matter how hard I try! Yesterday we had 17 inches of snow and the X plows through it like it was butter with the Toyo's on! The Toyo's AT Open Country's are hard to find, but a quality tire made in Japan. The tread almost looks directional, it has jointless nylon ply caps for high speed and cornering, they even have rim protectors. Forgive me if I sound like a ricer, but I'm still in the tuner mode from my days of pulling on Civic's, Integras, and Eclipse's.

"This is only MY opinion, I could be wrong"

I have run Michelin LTX 31-10.50s on my stock wheels and suspension for 8 years, and have only been stuck in the mud once... and the only thing that would have helped there was a bridge.

They are great on the road, have a fairly hard compound, last forever if you rotate them and keep the truck aligned, and the tires balanced.

The only time they ever rubbed was if I had the wheels totally cranked and was backing up. Even then, it just rubbed the plastic inner wheel well and didn't ever do any damage.

They don't look very aggressive, but I am usually the one pulling somebody else out at my deer lease.

I just recently changed to bigger tires, because the Michelin's looked tiny and silly on a truck with about 6" of lift.

i like my BFG AT KO's but you might check in to the Explorer Pro-Comp Xterains.

BFG AT KO. Ive only had mine on for 5k miles but my dad got 70k out of his rear ones and 90k out his front ones.
