I was working on my 2000 Explorer 4.0 ohc 4wd today looking for a ticking noise that I only hear when i drive 45 or fast or if the wind is blowing really hard. I find a wire harness on the front of my explorer. Its behind the bumper, near the driver side attached to the front of the frame. Its not going to anything. Just attached with a plug in it. What could this be for?

PS..if anyone has an idea what the ticking sound I hear let me know.

Pics of the harness?

Is it a regular 120V household style plug? If so, that's for your block heater...or some other type of aftermarket tank heater. They are used to plug in at night so your engine stays warm.

Possibly unused connection for foglights. Mine has that. The other connection in that area is to the airbag sensor(s). Don't mess with that.
