i have a 1992 explorer with 2 inch lift and getting 31 inch super swampers and i want to throw mud on the side when im in the mud do you think 3.75 or 4.5 backspacing is better?

I would go with 3.75. The 4.5 will likely hit the radius arms. You ccan measure it with a tape measure.
 






ok but will it throw mud on the side cause i want the tires to stick out the fenders . could i use offsets and if i should how much offset?

Hard to answer without knowing what rim and exact specs from the tire (you plan on running). The chart below indicates Tire & Rim specs for Stock vs other popular combinations on BFG AT Ko's (15x8 3.75bs being the most common).

My Truck with 15x10 rims 3.75BS with 33x12.5x15 BFG AT KOs. I have a 4" Suspension lift & a 3/4" body lift, and needed to cut/trim 2"+ off the front fenders to clear this tire/wheel combination.

ok im getting 31x9.50 super swamper radials on 15 inch procomp rock crawler series 89 3.75 bs.
