Ok help me out here, I take my ride in to get an oil change, and they say they'll "Summerize" it for no extra charge. They call me and say the brakes in the front need replacing, ok, other than that, things are fine. Then I go pick it up, and I notice a thud, thud, thud as I'm driving. It wasn't making this noice 3 hours ago when I dropped it off. Anyways, they call me today about the thud, and tell me they want $400 CDN a piece for wheel bearings, and with labour, it will be about $1000 total. Hmm.. I smell something here, but can't put my finger on it. Any opinions on this one ?

For quite some time I was getting the same thrumming noise from the right front. First thot it was tire cupping, so did a rotate and rebalance and the noise persisted.

Took it into a non-Ford shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. As time went by noise got louder. One day I was walking out to the parking lot and glanced at the rt front wheel and dang if it didn't look like it was leaning from the bottom out. Crap! Took it in to the Ford dealer and sure enough the bearing was toast! I mean shredded!! Cost me USD$500 for the one, incl labor. The hub and bearing ass'y on the '97 AWD is expensive. Next one I think I can change on my own, but this was a weekday work-car emergency.

In your case, the shop may be "generating" business. In mine it was a no s--t this thing's gone bad! Good luck!

Everytime a shop tells you they will do some work on your truck for no charge, right away you know something fishy is going on. If they broke something while your truck was in the shop they should be responsible to fix it. Proving that it was their fault is nearly impossible. But if you end up knowing you will eventually spend a dime on fixing your truck because of this problem, then don't give them the satisfaction of giving them your business and getting more money out of you. *******s, I tell ya!
