When started and put into reverse or drive engine dies. What am I missing??

If the new one made no difference an OEM one probably won’t make a difference.
Footprint wise it's the same but the ports are different on the bottom vs the original.

Hi. Don't own an Explorer anymore, but used to have a 97. Your symptoms are the same as a problem I had with the 97. It would start fine and run fine but when started after warm up, it would stall in R or D. It was the IAC valve. It would stick when warm, would work fine when cold. You can clean the IAC valve and it may help, but they are not terribly expensive to replace which is what fixed the problem for good. Good luck.
Check map senor that was my problem ford couldn't figure it out another garage figure it out in 2 days ford had it 3 weeks

Good to know! Ill also look into that. Hasn't had the problem in a week or so but that is because Ive been letting it warm up longer after I start it and before I put it into gear.

Also would you know where that is located on a 01 4.0l explorer?
