WHEN to clean mas?

ive been sitting here for about an hour or so and must have read 44 million threads about cleaning the MAS. so, now i know exactly what im doing and how to do it, but, how do i know if i SHOULD do it or not? when does it need it? is there a typical maintenance schedule for cleaning it? i mean, i could just pop it off and take a look at it - i assume ill see some build up on it? my trucks just over 3 years old and has 33k on it; the thought of cleaning the mas just came to mind earlier tonight, so i figured id do some homework on it. also, anyone suggest cleaning anything else while im doing this?

I suggest looking at it now, then checking it about once a year. If you have a good filter it'll almost never need cleaning. In fact, I've never cleaned mine besides with some compressed air.

I never clean mine. You really shouldn't have to if you keep a good air filter on. Make sure to use an electrical cleaner if you use one AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO MESS UP THE METAL WIRES.

well, i have a kkm for my air filter which i plan on cleaning in the spring, so maybe ill wait till then to check out the mas.

Check it every time you clean/replace your air filter. Since you have to remove your KKM to clean it, that would be the best time to look at your MAS and clean it if it needs it.
