Where are all the Virginia Explorers??

Hey Guys I just picked up a 93 XLT. I am in Chesterfield ( south of Ric.)

I'm all stock now. I have to replace the vacuum modular on the tranny this weekend but i lost most of my tools in the recent move. So I guess I HAVE to go buy some new ones:D

sounds good do you have any modifications planned for it yet?

Sounds like a trip to Harbor Freight for tools. If you did not know it is on the north side of 360 (hull street), just east of the intersection of Chipenham Parkway (150)

I always have plans. I'm probably going with the superlift 5.5 and some 33s or 35s I'm alot broke so things are going to have to wait a bit. Oh and Lockers, definitely lockers.

Harbor Freight is great! It is only about 10 min from my house.

My X is a 91 sport with 5.5 superlift and 33 BFGs. We do some ocassional runs up to National Forest and few other trail runs.

there's a ride in the planning stages for just out side of lynchburg new years eve. the trail there taking shouldn't be bad stock jeeps go threw. I've never been but I have a few of them asking me to come and join them. this is National forest so no open containers are allowed, doesn't bother me since I don't drink anyway. is there anyone else that may be interrested.

Any type of events going on up my way?

Next year i dont have a problem driving down towards richmond as its not really that far.

unclemeat--were you in scottsville today around 3:30?

Does anyone know how to get to the trails at GWNF from charlottesville? I've never been, but I'm planning to as soon as I can figure out where the trails are and whats open. Also, there are supposedly some trails in Waynesboro call something like 'coal road' or 'bald mountain' that I was having some trouble getting decent directions to, and I couldn't find out if they were closed throughout hunting season. If anyone has any info, it would me appreciated. Thanks

We ran the Shoe Creek Trail yesterday. To get to the trail, Blue Ridge Parkway to Rt 56 south, as soon as you pass the fish hatchery at Montebelo turn right on Rt 820 (I believe). This road will take you up to the top of crabtree falls. The trail will become more difficult after you pass the parking lot. We had two vehicles on 31s, but I would go with a buddy, and not after a large rain.

Stoney Run ends at Bald Knob on the blue ridge parkway. Not as difficult as Shoe Creek, but a nice trail. From 64 exit and follow the signs to Sherlando Lake, just befor the lake, take a right Coal Road, go 7.0-miles trail head is on the left. It is reported to be closed in the winter, if you go to the pedler district GWNF website they will give you directions and closing info.

If anyone is interested, I am selling a Nissan Xterra supercharger that some have mounted on the OHV motors. It is not a complete kit but a decent start. The SC is brand new never installed. I also have some other misc pieces to go with it it. Pics are on the FS thread below if anyone is intereste

thanks man. let me know if you're down in scottsville again. My family owns a restaraunt and I work there. Come hungry. lol.

the ride the lynchburg group is planning is shoe creek and they say this trail is not closed at all during the year. soon as I find out more details I will let you know.

There aren't any gates on the Shoe Creek trail. It is a good trail for a news years run, because at the end (crabtree falls) is a parking lot with latrine, and good rough camping. The trail is rocky with several creek crossings, (no mud). We did it last week with a stock ranger and explorer on 31s. There are some more difficult lines, but it is a very good trail for slightly modified vehicles. A night time run would really make it exciting.

i'm told that they have changed it to a new years day ride (shoe creek). thats a great way to start off a new year, with some off road adventures. my truck is in the shop as we speak being touched up alittle. while I'm thinking of it, is there going to be another ride at crozet this year.

Id love to get in on the next ride (stock 1st gen explorer for now) as long as its not gonna completely kill the truck.

I browsed through the pictures of the shoe creek ride and that looked like a lot of fun!

where are these pics?

They are in the off road planning and discussions section. The thread was called "GWNF Shoe Creek November".

Any interest in going back to shoe creek, or maybe doing Coal road, right after Christmas. My uncle and I are looking to go to one of the two around the 27th, but no plans are final. As always, the more the merrier.

Coal Road isn't a trail, its a maintained gravel road, FR42. But it does give access to the north trail head of Stony Run, which may be closed for the season.
