Number 13 on Figure 2. That's the outer tie rod. The part that goes to the steering rack is the inner. I'm not sure if the inner ones are easily replaceble, but the outer ones are easy to change. Undo the nut, pop the tie rod off the spindle. Loseen the backer nut. Unscrew. Screw new one one, tighten backer nut, put back on spindle and tighten.

anyone dont this before?

Outer Tie rods are the steering components which move the front wheels. If you look under the front of our X the Tie rods are attached directly to your steering Knuckles (ie wheels).

Inner ones aren't much more difficult. Cut clamp holding dust boot to rack&pinion, turn the wheel to the side you're working on and use a pipe wrench to undo it from the r&p. Use wire ties to hold the boot back on when finished.

Also, you'll need an alignment after anything is replaced.

I've done the inners. Took me a few hours working in snow/hail.

I have done them more than a few times.
How adventurous are you ?
It is not a task for the easily timid, but it is with in the capabilities of some DIY weekend warriors.
