Hello I am new to the forum. My Wife's 2003 Sport track check engine light came on about 2 weeks ago. took it to autozone and they got the code off of it and said the oxygen sensor needs to be replaced. Didn't have the money at the time tech said driving it wouldn't hurt it. So a couple of days a go it started running rough and hard time starting. So I am going to try and replace the oxgen sensor myself. Can some one tell me where they are located? I am going to have the tech pull the codes off again today and will post them a little later if that helps. Thanks in advance

Here our the codes p2195,p2197,p0171,po174. What steps should I take before replacing the oxygen sensors??

Welcome to this forum! The O2 sensors are located on the exhaust system. The job of the O2 sensor is to read the mixture, and forward the information back to the PCM to make adjustments. Most late model vehicles have more than one O2 sensor. A code related to the O2 sensor is usually information that the sensor picked up, and is the result of another part that is bad. This is the reason why it's important to post the codes when you get them. The salesman just wants to sell you parts because it's his job. It's possible that the O2 sensor is bad, but is not always the case.

ok went back to autozone and had the tech pull the codes and he said it was p0171. He sold me some fuel injection cleaner cleared the code and told me that should fix the problem. CEL was off most of the day but came back on after about 25 miles or so. Printout from Autozone says:
The computer has recognized a rich or lean condition on one engine bank only. Probable cause
1. Oxygen sensor defective
2. Ignition misfire-repair
3. fuel injection problem
4. if bank one and two codes set togeather suspect fuel pressure or MAF sensor.

Can anyone make sense of any of this? Thanks

that code means your running too lean, i had the same code, and p0174 too.. it ended up being my intake manifold gasket, and cleaned the MAF sensor too ..

So what would you guys do first? I don't know much about engines but have done a lot of repairs on my Durango, so if someone could walk me thru some things and where there located I would appreciate it. thanks
