hi everyone. i have a stock height explorer and i love going offroad in my friend's jeep, but i cant w/the X. i would lift it, but it's just not worth it since i only have the 3:27 open rear. bigger tires just wont work very well.

anyway, i've wanted to at least do something fun with my explorer, so i was thinking sand dunes. i see a bunch of cool pictures on here, and it looks like fun.

does anyone know of a place that has lots of sand that i can drive on with my explorer that isn't reeeeeealy far from the poconos (pennsylvania, right on the border of NJ). i'll travel a few hours if i have to, but a cross country trek is out of the question.

if anyone knows of such a place, please let me know.

thanks

lee

i've never seen a beach that they let you drive on.
that would be great though.

does anyone know of a beach i can drive on without getting arrested?

There are lots of "beaches" here in Texas that you can drive on. Actually you can drive on any of the public beaches here. And Padre National Seashore. Only rule is that you can't drive on the dunes. Oh and of course there are speed limits.

Oooh... oooh... oooh. I wanna know too! :) Maybe we could both go at the same time.

All I've heard of on this side of the country is Outer Banks (or something like that). It's in one of the Carolinas. My girlfriend goes there every year during the summer. If I think about it, I'll ask her about it.

BTW, I bought the amp for the components yesterday on ebay. Only :D$310.:D

cool, so you have the amp and components now?

outer banks is in North Carolina. cape hatteras or something.

john, see if you can organize a beach/sand run with the other ECX people. it would be cool to meet some of the people i've been talking to all this time.

Just what I was thinking. I'll do a little research on it and see what I can do.

at carolina beach here on the southeast tip of north carolina you can drive. i don't like driving on the beach though. salt water just promotes rusting. there are several places around my area that have much much sand with large hills and soft huge sand pits that are fun to drive in. sand also is very forgiving because you can bottom out without worrying at all. rocks don't give way as much as sand does. there are several good places that i have found here in wilmington that would be fun to go wheeling. the only problem is that groups of more than 5 or 6 attract a little too much attention for our own good.

If any of you ever make it to Florida, with or without your Ex, look us up...We do ALOT of sand driving..You can check out some pics on our events page...follow the link in my sig...

I've requested a lot of information about the Outer Banks from various websites.
  • What I've learned so far:
  • it's made up of a bunch of islands next to NC
  • lots of places to drive on the beach
  • lots of places to visit that it would be worth making a weekend out of it to do a little touring
  • amonst the places of interest are a very large indoor aquarium and a German :Dbrewery:D with apparently really good :Dbeer:D!!!
I'll let you know what all I find out.

NJ Pines

Not to far, some awsome sand, I would like to take a trip down there sometime soon b4 it gets too cold. Anyone interested?????

i'm free for the entire week of October 28th-November 3rd.
who else???

i hope we can get a bunch of people.......

Im good with that.... anymore takers????

the good place in NC is Corova Beach, at the very top of the OBX (outer banks). the brewery is called the Weeping Raddish, and i hear the beer is good. ive been there before, its a pretty cool place. the whole OBX is a real cool place. Corova beach is free no charge you have to have 4wd or else if you get stuck they can give you a ticket. its really only sand i went with my stock height X with crapstones, no trouble at all, cept for some deep loose stuff. so thats my $.02 worth of knowledge for you all.

The outer banks

Hey if ya'll do go ahead and head there let me know. I live about 4 hours away and have been up there one other time. It is really nice up there. Lots of sweet places to ride. Unfortunately I did not have my ex with me when I went up there.

so John, what about you??
NJ cant be that far from you (middle of nowhere VA;) )

I've heard those work Great. Won't be up for that week... gotta go to MOAB!!

:bounce:

LOL...

that looks more like wood chips than sand leebo:)
and there isn't enough to drive on anyway.
BUT if you can find acres of woodchips for me to drive on, let me know. although i dont think wood chip dunes would be as stable as sand dunes.....

I doubt I can get off of work on that short of a notice, but I'll give it a shot. NJ is probably at least 8 hours from here.
