Hi all,

I'm looking at modifing my '93 XLT 4-door for off roading.

After reading lots of posts on different lift and their costs, I've decided to go with the following;

Warrior shackles in the rear.... I might replace the leafs or add-a-leaf because they have sagged a bit over the years.

Spacers or TT in the front... is TT only for newer explorers or can it be done the same way on older ones like mine?

Suggestions on a front lifting method to match the back? What is the shape of the spacers? (diameter etc)... There is a place local to me that can machine them from allunimum blocks. What thickness should they be to match the shackles with good leafs?....

My coils in the front were replaced fairly recently and have not sagged at all. Should I do the shackes/rear leafs first and then get the front to match up?

2" or 3" body lift. What brand should I get.... My Explorer is automatic... do you need any extras with any of the kits?

Super Swamper 32/10.50R15 on my stock rims... I think I can get these locally.

How does all this sound together? Any suggestions would be great.

I'd like to buy the shackles, body lift and spacers (if neccesary) all from the same place at a reasonable price.

Thanks,
Chris B

I'd like to start off by welcoming you to the site. You'll find anything and everything all right here.

As for your question. Check out this web site. I get most of my parts from there, as do several members on the board. You will be able to find almost everything listed right there. The parts may not be on the site, but give them a call and they can help you out.

You will need to go to Ford to get some spacers for the springs. You are correct that you can't do the TT. This is for 95+ with IFS. But the spacers for the F150 will work fine. :) Good Luck

Chris,
Welcome aboard!

You can stuff the 32" tires under your truck with a 3" BL - definitely the most cost-effective way to go. If you are looking at shackles and so forth to get a suspension lift, try this combo:

Shackles and zimmerman mod in rear (zim-mod is adding a Ranger main leaf to the top of your Explorer leafs and cutting off the eyes on the Exlporer leaf) and going to roughcountry.com and getting 2" leveling coils. With these coils, you don't need longer shocks. You will gain better travel than with a body lift and won't get steering bind that body lifts can cause. There are kits out there - IE - James Duff or Rancho 2.5" lift. Also - study other rigs here and decide what your goal is. Good planning will save a bunch of money. Don't overplan or you won't get it done! (Speaking from personal experience)

Ok Goob's - take your pot-shots ;)

Good luck Chris,

Jon
