where can I mount....(audio god leenjen please help)

I've got a pioneer GM-X352 amp which is about 1/2 inch wider and 1 inch longer than the stock amp that ran the subwoofer in the back. It won't fit where the stock one was. I was thinkin of mountin it on the outside plastic after I seal the right side back up. ANybody got any other suggestions, I thought about under the seat,but I've decided against that becuase down the road I wanna put either some bass cannons or 6x9's under. The other place I was considering is inside the panel, next to the wheel well, but the bottom mount tab for the amp/sub box is in the way.(if you've had the back open, you'd understand). Ay good ideas?

well i dont know about audio god... it's just something i love to do.

how much modification are you willing to do? for example: cutting the panel above the wheel well and mounting the amp. then clear plexi covering the amp. you could even mount the amp to mirrored plexi and put a neon tube in there.
or you could make it a fiberglass panel instead of the plastic. then you could paint it with metallic auto paint.
in car audio, space doesnt limit what you can do... only your imagination will. it's hard to explain something like this without actually having the vehicle (and the person) there to show them. i hope my explanation was clear enough. if you need anything for installations, here is a good website to check out http://www.selectproducts.com/


i wish i had a digital camera so i could post some pics of my installs. i have done all types, standard installs, stealth installs, custom installs, painted fiberglass dashboards and interiors. i change my explorer around every few months.

Has anybody ever worked with the stock amp for the sub? It has two wires coming out of the top I belive the red is power and the yellow is control, then the bottom it has three, two for the negative and positive speaker input and then a ground. Does this sound right? Because thats how i hooked it up to my new amp and it still won't work. Sucks badd, I wanna have bass real soon.

do you still have the factory headunit? since you are putting an aftermarket amp in, you should run a new power and ground wire. instead of using the factory wires. as far as the speaker leads go, if you have an aftermarket headunit use the rca's. i wish i could help more but i haven't done any work with the factory system. when i took mine out, i threw it away (i should've kept it for reference).

i bet Brian can help, he seems to have access to ford's wiring diagrams.

leenjen - Have you painted the dash in your Explorer? or have you done and custom fiberglass in it?

yes i did have a fiberglass dash in my explorer for a few months. it was a deep metallic red color. i took it out june 17th. i plan on doing another. i just have to figure out what design i want. i want it to look more like a ****pit. and i want to put a dvd player and widescreen monitor too. but money is the issue right now. i have other stuff that needs to be taken care of first.

JYO are you trying to use the factory turn on lead to turn your amp on. If your are it will not work. The factory turn on lead is only about 5 volts. You will need a device like Peripheral Electronics makes. It is call a LVT(low voltage trigger) It will take the 5 volts and turn it into a 12 volt 1 amp out put.

Yeah I was messin with it for a while on friday and figure out that it didn't have a good turn-on wire for the amp. Is the red wire the main power and the yellow the turn-on(for the stock setup)?

If you do not want to do any big mods to your truck why not build a false floor in the back for the amp. I do this at work for customers.
When you build your amp rack to fit in the back you can remove the factory tie downs and use the hole to mount your amp rack to the floor and then relocate the tie downs to the top of the amp rack. If your amp is not to tall you will not loose much room. I also relocate the the panels that cover the area when you fold the seats down onto the amp rack it kind of keeps everything looking factory. Do not forget to add some type of cooling fan if you do something like that.

i mounted mine upside down under the back seats. bigtigexplorer was the first car i saw this done on and he says he hasnet had any problems with it like that and neather have i. tommorrow i will have pics posted
