I am putting a cruise control on my ranger, and need to connect to VSS and a TACH. Can anybody tell me where to find these? Thanks in advance.

On an '00 the VSS is located on the side of my automatic transmission on the drivers side. YMMV.

Is there a good place to just tap into the wire in the engine compartment? Which wire / what color is it? Thanks

Sorry, I've never tapped into a VSS before, so I wouldn't know which wires to look for, but I'm betting that the VSS wires go directly to the computer and don't run through the engine compartment. If you can't tell where the wires go by following them from the sensor, then you'll probably have to get a manual and look at the schematic.

For 2007~2008 Ranger, the VSS is violet w/orange stripe. You can find it at pin position #1 in one of the three PCM connectors on the firewall.

Thanks a lot for all the help. Can't wait to get the cruise installed.

put a pick of your ranger up! have you had as many problems with yours as I have had with mine?

The only problem that I've had with mine is that I was passing (therefore I was at fault) and sideswiped the entire rear half of the drivers side!! Now I am waiting :mad:on them to fix it. How do I get a pic on here?

got the pic on my profile...check it out. 2.8L diesel, full 4 door, 5 sp, gets about 23-25 mpg, lots of power. This one is only 2WD but 4WD is available.

get a photobucket account, but i looked and its small, but thats ok.

On the US '07 Ranger, the OSS signal runs from the OSS on the trans to the PCM via the YE/OG wire. The VSS signal gets outputted by the PCM to the speed control servo via the VT/OG wire. I would imagine there's also some communication between the CAN network and the instrument cluster, stereo, etc. for vehicle speed inputs.... but those signals may originate from the ABS system not necessarily the VSS on the trans...

Now, all that being said, those export model Rangers may very well be wired completely different... Sorry I can't help there.

VSS converter?

Thanks to you guys for the help...I found the vss. The problem is the cruise control isn't reading the signal. I got to looking around, and in the dash, on the passengers side, where the US vehicles have air bags, I have a black box that says Signal VSS Converter. 77544>8000 I think that the signal must be way too much, but this converter should do the trick? Anyway, I found the vss wire coming INTO the converter, now I am wondering how to find the output wire...the one carrying 8ooo ppm? Can anyone help? Thanks
