I've just finished installing the Quick Air2 compressor on my explorer. This runs great(except when it stops...think I messed up on the ground....you try to fit your hand into the area where the jack is stored). I am looking into installing the air tank and maybe a co2 tank. The problem is that I still keep my spare tire in the stock location. Does anybody have another idea where I can at least mount a air-tank for the compressor?? I'm thinking about mounting it between the frame and the body right in front of the rear passenger tire with a connection comming up from the fender for easy hook up of an air hose. What do you think?? Any other paces to mount the tank???

What about a custom made bumper that can hold air? A local 4x4 shop here in TN can do that to the bumpers they make and it doesn't cost much more, because basically they are just adding a fitting on there, and making sure it is air tight. I know you wouldn't call up here in TN, but you live in Vegas right? I am sure there are tons of shops there and they may be able to make it cheaper since there are so many shops. Plus you could also get a hi lift mount on the bumper or behind it, instead of ghetto mounted on the front bumper like you have it.

About your idea of mounting it. If you go rock crawling, then you would need to look out for rocks hitting the tank, since you know the rockers can get hit pretty bad, right? If you put it there, you would need to protect it pretty good. Another place you could mount it, if you don't use the rear cargo arear, would be mounted on the gounr on either side of it, or right against the rear seat, that way it would also be out of the weather. But if you do use the cargo area, you could mount it up on the wheel well on the plastic, out of the way.

I do use the rear though. I never though of the well though...I'd just think the tank would be too big for that area, besides in the sport I need all the room inside I can get. As for the jack....that's right where I wanted it. Even if I get a roof rack the jack stays right there.

Leebo,
How loud is the Quick Air2?
Last week I stopped in at a 4x4 shop in Denver and they had one of them on disply. I think it was around $300.00
I sure would like to have one of those on board.

So far I've got up and down. For some reason it won't stay on. I'm thinking I've got a bad ground but I'm not sure. If it's not the ground it's the regulator. Who knows. I haven't tried air tools yet but it will air up my tires up 10psi in about a minute or so. Not bad in my mind. I'd guess that the price you said was a round one, but I ended up paying 250 out out the door. It's a heck of alot quicker than a plug in, and quiter too.

check out this link on where I put my extiguisher. I'd like to mount it by the seat, but so far I can't find one small enough.

Lee,
From what I've heard that dude gets kind of hot. Hope it doesn't melt the access door. By the way, K Bar S is going to expand its products into the Ranger and Explorers,as far as bumpers go anyways. I talked to Pat this weekend and they are trying to work out something with a guy from S. Cal. They are looking to produce a rear bumper with a swing out tire carrier, and a front bumper with winch plate. If you are going to do a shake down run before T-haven give me a buzz.

Last time I was down there I had the feeling they might end up expanding.....Drop me an email.....as far as I know I should be free all this weekend and monday. You name the time and where,I'll be there.

I was wrong about my guess. I didn't think it would be able to run air tools.....it is. I'm thinking though that it was built more for a tank over just the compressor though. I think that may be why it turns on and off so much. Now if only I didn't get the 1/4' air wrench instead of the 3/8' like a normal person......dumb me.

Leebo, I think that I remember reading about your compressor in a magazine. If I remember correctly it has an automatic heat sensing shut-off. Perhaps it is not getting enough air where it is and it is shutting itself off to protect from overheating. I am not sure but try running a fan over it and see if it stays on. I talked to James Duff this last week and took a tour of their shop. They are about a week away from their front prerunner bumper for the explorer with the reciever and the winch mount model. I was assured that they would be working on a rear bumper that could hold a rear tire and perhaps a gas can or? I will keep you updated as I hear what is going on in James Duff land.
