Where is my HEAT?

I just privatley purchased a 2006 Ford Ranger 4x4 Sport. There seems to be a problem with the vents that run below the dash and hit the legs. They dont' work. The only vent that seems to work well, is the defogger for the front windshield. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so how did you fix it?
