People said they have found a membrane where they have ran the power wire through the firewall without drilling... where is this membrane. I read through old posts and people said it was under the clutch/brake pedal. I looked there took out the little plug but the hole is too small to run 8 guage wire and when I put a clothes hanger in there the hanger didn't go anywhere.

So from these pictures where is the membrane supposed to come out and where in the engine bay is the membrane located. OR where can I SAFELY drill a hole in the firewall so that I can run my power wire?

mine was right behind where your clutch is. but i dont have a manual tranny.
and the hole on the other side was under the fuse box.
i ran a 4 gauge wire. any place around there should be ok. i dont know if you can pull the fuse box out to look.

On mine there was a rather large rubber grommet, under the brake booster?? in the engine compartment....
look under your dash and up..... I fit 0 guage through it...

I've run all my wire threw the hole where the hicky from the clutch goes threw. Comes out right below the brake booster!

if you want to run it on the passenger side you can pull the carpet back a bit to where a passenger would put their feet and there should be a rubber piece you can pull out and fit 4 guage through it.

LOL! I swear I looked for like 1/2hour under my dash looking for a grommet and there isn't one. I saw other pics of people that have a nice big yellow one... I don't have that. I pulled up the carpet and the kickpanel but I can't see ****.

The vehicle is a 97 Explorer Sport with ControlTrac and a 5-spd manual. Maybe that has something to do with it.

In the picture where is the wire supposed to come out in the engine bay (I don't know what brake booster or master brake cylinder looks like).

on your second pic, look just to thr right of your steering shaft and up. pull up the rubbery liner from under the carpet and you should see that wire going throuigh a black grommet.

I ahve a '97 2 door, 5-speed manual with an OHV.

Where your steering shaft comes through your firewall there is a LARGE oval shaped rubber bushing, almost the size of a softball. I used a utility knife and cut a small X near the top of it, to insure my wires would not touch the steering shaft, i ran all my wires through that and zip tied them all away from the shaft

I usually run my power wire through the front fenders then through the rubber grommet where all the wires for the power windows/locks/mirrors and under the carpet from there.....you dont necessarily have to take anything out but it makes it easier to use a LONG very strong straight pole or something....tape the end of your power wire to the end of that pole real good and shove it up toward the battery, then go to the front and pull it out and you're done

I've run a few gauge wires through the rubber gromet for the hood release cable..

I ran my power wire through the drain plug in floor board on the front passenger side. Easier than trying to find a spot in the firewall...
