Hi, I live in Australia and so no pre 1999 5.0 V8 Explorer ever came here. I travel to the US now and again and will be coming over again at the end of the year. Any thoughts on where best on the West Coast of the US I should go looking for an engine and transmission to ship back to Oz?

You could check ebay or car-part.com. Other than that, I will have to let some of the west coast guys chime in on good yards to check out.

Maybe someone on the forum will have one when you are in 'the area'. Keep an eye on the classifieds on this website.

Thanks that is certainly a good starting point, comes up with plenty of options.

Shipping to Oz for both might be more than it is worth (I would guess $500 in a shipping container).
At this price you can even look at dealership for a rebuild long block and transmission - send them (pick the city you want for a dealer) an email and ask prices.

Thanks SoNic67, In that case, which sounds a smart way to go, since parts will be cheaper in the US than here, any suggestions for shops that do high quality rebuilds on the West Coast?

No one in Oz can rebuild a 302??

Try car-part.com, select the zip code or city, and it will show all available parts in that area. Usually the mileage, and the condition of the part is listed. Grade A is best, sometimes there are comments about the good and the bad about the particular part you are looking at. Best of luck and let us know how you make out in your endeavor.
