You could Check with the Better Business Bureau in your area and see how some rate.

Find a body shop that has the ICAR certification. The people there are trained to perform excellent body work.

This may be due to the fact that I live in a small town, but I have found that any of the actual 'body shops' around here dont do the greatest work. From word of mouth I have found one or two really good 'back-yard' guys. I think these guys are the best becuase its not just a 9-5'er job for them, they put alot more effort into the work and they dont have a fixed shop rate so you get better bank for the buck. So IMO, I'd just keep askin around for any local guys who'll swing you a good deal.

Billy took my answer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Visit some high end dealerships that do not have their own body shop.
Lexus, Acura, BMW what have you, will have more discriminating customers.
The shops that work for these dealerships will put out a higher quality product.

Also visit car shows and find out who did some of their paint jobs.

A good quality all over paint job is very costly.
Changing colors even more so.
Expect to pay no less that $4,000.00 up to $10,000.00 or more for a high quality all over with color change.

Try finding a body shop where they have it close to, or on the same property as their home. They do alot of after hours work and let them know what your time frame for completion is, be flexible, you will get the best rate and better quality if they are not rushed. Definately see if you can get references or detailed pictures of some of their handy work. It's always best to go somewhere you are comfortable that they will treat your X like their own, and not like a dealer lot car that they could care less about.

Chances are if you go to a place where you can look the bodyman in the eyes and he knows you will associate his face and name (shop) with good work, then he will not disappoint you, if you trust him. Another point,Trust, does he look you in the eyes, does he know the answers, or have to think (make-up) about it.

Oh, another few tips.
Wash your Ex before droping it off.
If it looks spotless and well kept when it rolls in it will raise the standard.
The techs will treat the project with higher reguard.
Sploder made a good point. Meet the tech responcible for your vehicle.
Bring him a case of beer, soda or water or what have you. A dozen doughnuts or some thing like that. That sort of stuff pays high divadends.
But DO NOT bug him, ask too many questions, stand over him and watch him work.
Trust me we HATE when customers watch us work. Not that we are trying to hide any thing, it is just annoying.

thaks yall, you guys helped alot i think i found a good shop. I have some front end damage and i changed ym mind im not going to do a color change im going to keep it the same color. I gt an est. on re-painting the fenders up at 2,500n so im guessing a whole paint job will be around 3.5k is this about right? thanks again :)

Yeah 3.5 is about right for a decent job.

Now go buy them some doughnuts :)
( Krispy Kreme are prefered )

thanks monmix, i wanted to know b/c im poor and im still savin'. or you could come down to ga and paint my truck whata think free beer, food  ;)

Well I would, but I am a body man, not a painter.

Reminds me. My dad and brother are plumbers with the family business. Sometimes, when the customer tells us how to do our job, we want to say "well, why'd you call us then?"
