My transfer case is apparently shot (per mechanic), and I need a new one.

Are there any places that you can find used or refurbished transfer cases for a decent price? He's telling me ~$1,100-1,600 for a refurb right now, not including labor, new seals, etc.

I have the V-6 Control track, electronic T.C. I believe it's the 4405

Thanks for any help.

There was a guy trying to sell a transfer case and transmission on the board last week. I would do a search as see what you can find.

in 1997 for the control trac 4x4 they made 5 different t-cases. like mine went out and and i cont find one for a good price. so im having the local for gerage do it its costing me like anywhere from 350 to 800 for a rebuild.

I got a 4405 off eBay for $120 to my door. Worked/works awesome.

Plus, save some money and install if yourself. If you can change your oil.. you can change a transfer case. :D

blueagletalon.. what I found out was that many different transfer cases will work. I think we used a '99 on my GF's '98 Sport. I ran into the same thing when I was looking for a hatch replacement. The guy at the junkyard was telling me that I could only use a hatch from 5/96 to 11/96 or something. I told him he was a foo. The reason they have different part numbers is because they maybe changed one thing internally. So if you tore apart the two different transfer cases.. you couldn't 100% interchange the parts. But it's no big deal when you're using the case as a whole. Know what I'm saying? All your truck is looking for is something that will bolt up... and something that has the same shift options 2WD, 4WD, 4LO, or 4Auto, 4HI, 4LO, etc.
