Should I go to the engine? Where's a good spot on the drivers side of the engine to do it?

Or should I go to the Chassis? I cannot find a definitive answer searching the web, just a lot of "This is what I did" comments.

What do you all think?

Jim

How hard would it be to ground to both. Wouldnt hurt anything would it? Then you gotta be right.

What are you going to be running off of the 2nd battery? I would think that going to the frame would be best. The engine grounding strap may not be sturdy enough if you were using something like a winch. The grounding strap is pretty much strictly for the starter, alternator, and plugs. There isn't any reason to run accessory juice through the engine grounding strap.

Just my opinion. I use to work at a "handicap accessible van" shop and installed dozens of back-up batteries and always grounded directly to the frame.

First off, thanks for the replies!

The 2nd Battery will be for my winch and rack mounted lighting.

Bill, I'll keep your idea in mind!

Robb, it sounds like you have some experience adding AUX batts so I'll start out by taking your advise and go to the chassis with the ground.

Thanks
Jim

I agree, directly to the chassis with a huge friggin cable ;) Make sure the terminal of the cable has nice clean conductive chassis to mate with and maybe use dielectric grease.

hey, i'm sure this thread is real, real old but you guys might be able to help.

i'm not at home right now so i can't take a look, but here's my question?

i recently upgraded my wiring for my amps to 0 gauge and while i was doing it i also upgraded my negative to the engine ground cable to 0 gauge, of course now i need to upgrade my grounding strap as well... i have a real nice mobil spec grounding strap just waiting to be installed too, i'm just wondering

1. where is the engine to chassis grounding strap located?

2. how long will it take to switch it out?

3. should i upgrade anything else while i do it? it is very important that i get a great ground and i'd like to know if i need to pick up any other little things to ensure that i will get one

thanks for your help
