My 06 explorer was running great and all of a sudden while stopped at red light engine started spitting and sputtering and making a ticking noise from intake. Took it to part store for diagnosis and got these error codes, p0304, p0106, p0316. Any suggestions on where to start? Can't afford mechanics prices so any help is greatly appreciated.

2 of the codes are miss fires ... is this the 4.6 or 4.0...if its the 4.6 check coil pack #4 first

No its the 4.0 6 cyl. It also gave code p0106 and defines it as faulty map sensor but I don't believe it has map sensor has maf sensor. Is that same thing?

No... Manifold air pressure and mass airflow do different things

If you have a decent scanner see if it will show live data and look for vref this voltage needs to be between 4.0 and 6.0 volts and yes according to ford. Yes the MAF can cause this code in certain cases and needs to be cleaned. Take my word on it I'm a ford tech can't reviel any words exactly from the book as part of my job but I would check that area. Doesn't cost $10 for cleaner. Also is it really cold where your at there is a hose that can freeze from excess moisture and cause this intermittently. Also if it is running bad all the time try tapping on the MAP. If nothing changes you will either have A. A bad MAP sensor. B. A bad PCM. Or C. Wiring issue. Those are from most plausible to least. Also fix lower codes first for p0106 can cause misfires.
