I shut the A/C off the other day while it was working flawlessly, and quietly.

Today I turned it on (it was 91 degrees here) and all I got was SMOKE from the A/C clutch.

It went from perfect, and quiet, to seized while parked. Very Odd.

Anyway, I pulled the lead from the clutch coil in the meantime and am going to order a new one ($102 Free Shipping-made in Korea).

It comes w/o oil, and for R-134 either PAG or Ester oil is acceptable, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the OEM fill was for these systems just in case I can't flush out every gram of the old oil, because I'd prefer not to mix lubricants?

Thanks,
Bob
BTW, I have had exceptionally good luck w/ S Korean made A/C compressors, and they come with the proper clutch and pulley assembly, too!

For what it's worth, I've used both PAG and Ester oils in a variety of systems, they seem to perform about the same.

But I've used PAG46 oil in my V6 Explorer which appears to be correct for the V8 too (V8 compressor type is FS10):

Yes, both are acceptable for R-134a

I just didn't think mixing Ester with PAG was acceptable, and even with a flush, I figured I wouldn't get 100% of what was in there out, so would prefer to use what Ford filled with originally.

I haven't seen anywhere what the factory used yet-

Perfect- Thanks.
