I was looking at the duralast, one is a reman and one is supposedly new, i think the new one isnt really new your just paying extra for it to be golden. So do i stay away from the autozone ones or what ones are better?

NAPA new series is very good to me (or probably any new alt). Check the price, it may not be much more than the reman. Problem with Reman is they get an alt off a car with 150K miles, check it out and whatever is in spec stays. If it is totally trashed, you are lucky because almost everything is replaced.

Bearings don't make noise? Great...pack it up and send it out.

10K miles later the bearings take a crap.... you are screwed..most people never take advantage of the lifetime warranty, especially if a shop did it. So that is the risk they take.

THat is why the new one cost more...It is up to you if increased reliability or cost is more important in your situation..

You could rebuild it yourself. A rebuilt has a combination of new, and used parts. A remanufactured is mostly new except for the case, and possibly the pulley.

I was told that there are different levels of reman units, it should say premium reman if it has all new functional parts.

Parts are very hard to find for the newer units.
