I want to swap it into my 92 and I can't decide.

The SOHC has less clearance for the AC box, look into that carefully. The 302 fits well, and that gets you into a far better group of transmissions.

ditto on the 302 but if your trying to keep a stockish drive train then a sohc would give you more hp and performance. besides there is mor aftermarket goodies for the sohc then the ohv

Yeah I'm debating the 302 as well but I don't know a damn thing about it. Is there any v8 swap writeup? I can't find one.

And I don't want to have to redo the WHOLE wiring setup.

As far as I know the sohc only has one more sensor, the cam position sensor.

what besides the cps and ac box thing is defferent in the sohc.

How have people cotton past the air box clearance issues.

Will the sohc bolt to my A4LD

It sounds like you will be using the PCM system from the original truck. Changing to the later OBDII system would gain quite a bit by itself, but that is much more involved.

so what would I have to do to switch to the obdii. I don't imagine its as easy as swapin computers :P

It would be a fairly large task. The whole engine/trans wiring harness would have to be integrated with the PCM and the wiring which connect all of those. Meaning that an engine bay harness and a dash harness would have to be dissected. Then the main circuits would have to be tapped into etc. Adding the parts(wires) would not be the hardest part.

Researching which wires to pull out of the donor harnesses would be the big deal. Once the wires and parts are separated, then it would be just a little slow(tedious) to add in the new wires etc.

I went through a similar process in adding the factory air suspension system to my 99 truck.

I would suggest avoiding that unless you can dedicate a few weeks beyond the basic mechanical work. I'm saying that the projects could overlap, the wiring project most likely would be the slower. Help from OEM DVD's and members here who have high skills with factory wiring would make it far easier. Regards,

yeah you know what guys just ignore this thread for now.

I need to find out everything I can about the 302 swap cause I know if I don't do it I'll just wish I had later.

Thanks for your help anyway.
