2010 Explorer Sport Trac
My 2010 Sport Trac is getting close to 90,000 miles and the owner's manual calls for replacement of the spark plugs. The engine is the 4.0L 6 cyl.

Which spark plugs do you guys recommend?

Thanks

I put in the E3 plugs and noticed better pick up and a little more mpgs. I have a 2007 v8 6sp. trans which I pull a 3500lb. boat regularly without a problem. costly but I think a great plug.

Any problems with the originals? If not, why stray from the OEM plugs that served you well for 90,000 miles? Check your hood decal or remove the easiest one, chances are they are Motorcraft. Double check gap at .054 and buy a $1 counter pack of anti seize using a very thin coating on the threads. Good for another 100K.

Isn't it that retardedly long end that causes the plugs on the V8 to become one with the head? I think thats enough of a reason to avoid the OEM ones in that case. The V6 has normal plugs so it doesn't have that problem, and anything will work. Avoid the Bosch though, they are garbage.

Autolite dbl platinums or motorcraft dbl platinums with anti-seize on the threads

2009 and 2010 v8's have the updated heads that no longer have the plug separation issues. I'd go with motorcraft oem replacements.

Hard to fault Motorcraft plugs with the 4.0 engine. The earlier 4.6 V8 one-piece OEM plugs are another story.

Autolite or Motorcraft double platinum...the best in a Ford.

Thanks for all the input guys. I wound up putting the OEM Autolite plugs in it, the same that came in it from the factory. Seems to be working out fine.

OEM is Motorcraft, not Autolite. Autolite broke off from Ford a long time ago, although their plugs are perfectly fine IMO.

Parts store was out of Motorcraft plugs for mine so I got NGK Iridium. Been there for over 40k, no issues.

My son has a 2010 Explorer with the 4.0 V6. I am going to replace the plugs shortly. I have not sized up the job yet to see if the plugs are easily accessible. Anything you can tell me to be on the lookout for?

I have a '99 F-150 with a 4.6 V8 and that spark plug change was a piece of cake. The key is to take you time and don't rush. I say easy because the '99 has the regular/normal spark plugs. Not those cursed projected sleeve ones that can be a nightmare to remove. ;)

The driver's side is easy. The passenger side is much easier if you jack it up, take the wheel off, and go in through the fenderwell. As I recall, I didn't even use a socket extension on most of them.
