- 2000 Sport 5 speed manual
I tried searching for this, but couldn't find the info I was looking for, so if someone could point me to a thread that contains the info, I would be very grateful.
I have a 2000 Explorer Sport, M50D manual trans and the OHV 6-cyl engine. The knob on my dash has three settings, Auto, 4 Hi, and 4 Lo. I'd like to know exactly which transfer case I have, so I can look into doing a swap for a manual shift transfer case that will hopefully get rid of the "racing" sound that I get when the car is in neutral. From what I understand, some shaft wears an oval in the transfer case, causing the whirring noise that I hear.
This leads me to my next question. What manual shift transfer case is the easiest for me to swap for my current case. I understand that I'll need to cut a hole in my floor to accomodate the linkage, but I'd rather not mess around with any welding. Also, I have a three inch body lift, will this cause any problems with the shift linkage?
Thanks in advance.
