Ok, fun stuff: my Explorer lost high range (I know it's a bad fork, but I need it fixed asap so not looking to order parts, tear apart, and rebuild), so which transfer cases will bolt in? I'm looking at local junkyards, and if I can expand the selection of transfer cases to choose from that could help greatly at finding one, especially considering the 240 inches of snow covering all the junkyards.

If I will have to manually engage 4wd, that is fine; I can work with that (Even if I have to spin the shaft with vice-grips from below). I'm looking to do minimal wiring work, as in I don't have to change any modules. So, basically, what will bolt to the driveshafts and to the rear of the tranny?

Possibly the 13-54 manual case? I wish I knew for sure, but I am not familiar with the dimensions of the Contral Trac transfer case.

Thanks for the help! I'm going with the 1354 manual. $200 and it'll be ready for me Monday from the local salvage yard. Feels good!

So, for anyone interested, as far as I can tell, I need a 1354 (w/ lever and boots) and a driveshaft from a 95-96 Explorer. I need to make the vss work, so I'm not sure yet if they are interchangeable, but I will find out when I dig in. I plan on doing a simple how-to with pictures, even though I have read repeatedly that this has been done countless times (amazingly, a search doesn't produce one).
