Which year you like best? worst?

We are considering a used explorer for a family car. Wondering of the 2010-2020 models - which ones are good? which ones have common problems, etc.?? We just had a 2008 Ford Edge that that water pump broke pretty quick and then we found out it was quite common on that year, make, model. Hoping to avoid something like that happening again. Thanks for any and all info!!!

I like that the 6th Gen, 2020+ went back to a "normal" engine layout instead of a transverse mounted engine. No water pump issues in the 6th gens either. I purchased a a late production 2020 and it has been very good to us for 50,000 miles, only going in to the shop for it's first issue just last week. All of the early issues with the 2020 were worked out before ours was produced in September of 2020. The only recall we had on ours was for the backup camera which never caused us an issue.

Unfortunately Ford began removing some features due to "supply chain issues" beginning in 2021, so the newer models don't have all of the bells and whistles that the 2020s did.
