Hello, I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD with a 4.0L SOHC engine. I have a 134K miles on the truck and I have one question concerning 4WD. When I select 4WD High, I get a whine at low speeds on DRY pavement when I turn corners(right or left) and sometimes when I go straight. I think this maybe normal, but I wanted to confirm this.
I recently installed all new ball joints(upper and lower) in the front and I have checked all u-joints(front and rear driveshafts). I also installed 4 brand new tires that are stock size(235/70-R16).
The "whine" goes away as soon as I put it back into 2WD by selecting 4WD Auto. The noise is much less noticeable on a snowy day that requires 4WD.
Is this normal for dry pavement?
Thanks for the replies!
