I've notice a whining noise w/in the past day or so, and it seems to have gotten a bit worse over the short time so I'm starting to get a bit worried. I was hoping someone could give some insight. Basically it sounds like a gear whine, and it increases or decreases with speed. I was thinking the rear diff may be low on fluid, I'm hoping that's the case at least. Also, there seems to be this tube that has fallen off a few times, it looks like a vent from the rear diff but I'm not sure, I couldn't find where it went, and was short on time and lost it when I went to trace it. So I'm also wondering if there are any open lines back there? I'll try to get under her tomorrow and take a few pics, but if there are any similar common problems, or if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks for your time all!

Mine was doing the same thing thing last year and ended up needing to be rebuilt. Bearings were gone in it, can't remember which ones. Pulled the drain plug and it was loaded with metal shavings. Good luck.

Thanks for the help, if need be, how hard is it to replace the rear diff and what options do we have for this as far as parts/kits?

Does anyone know off hand what you need to pull the drain plug? I can't get up there far enough to see it and my camcorder is too big as well.

m 95 started whining last week . my buddy is a ford tech and told me he see's the carrier bearings go out in them all the time . he had a good set under his bench and had it on and back off the lift in about an hour and a half . totally fixed it for free and incredibly fast . he even pulled the pinion and replaced that one just for good measure and reset the backlash for me .
whew... i read the costs quoted to people in some other related posts (1400.00) and was ready to blow this truck out for dirt....

deal is the bearings just get a bit loose and the ring gear backlash increases with load . i had measured it at .016" when i checked it out at home wich is max factory spec but when i accelerate it may be more like .025" .
if what eric did to fix mine is all the dealers are doing for those high repair costs.. what a ripoff....

I wouldn't doubt it. I hear nothing but crap about the way Ford dealers work. My local one is full of it. Yoiu have to push them just to do recall work.

your not makin your gf / wife sit back there ?
sorry dude coudnt resist

No offense taken, especially because I don't get the joke. :???:

whining here is another word for whinging, *****ing nagging ect.

Ohh, yeah I get it. Just couldn't put it together. We use the word the same way.

I was checkin out your cardomain, that's awesome, beautiful scenery, when I get out of school I want to visit Austrailia. Trucks not too bad either. :P
