Well, the subject pretty much says it all. There's a high pitched whistle coming from underneath my truck when I stop it after i've been driving it. It's coming from just about the middle of the truck (about where the front and rear doors meet). I haven't had a chance to get underneath and look at it, but will be doing that pretty soon when I install my exhaust. Any ideas of what I should look for?

I would assume it's maybe a hole in the muffler or exhuast.

I installed a flowmaster exhaust, so I know it's not coming from the exhaust. It's still there and really annoying when I get out of the truck, any ideas?

Did you run over a Leprecaun? you know there starting to come out now..

Is it doing it when your engine is running or after you shut if off? When I had my 91 ranger it would make a high pitch whistle for about 45 sec. after I shut it off after I made a 30 or more mile drive, and found that it was coming from the vent tube in the rearend. I guess it was boiling over. I changed the water (it had gear oil in it..lol) and never had the problem again...

your weld may have a hole in it.... or your clamp my be loose.... and the air could be passing through... there would be an increase and you accelerated though....

Well, looked under there, and as of yet, no leprechauns :D

It happens when the engine is not running...but it's after pretty much any drive I make, whether it be 1 mile or 100. It sounds like your problem though, how would I check if it is the vent tube?

94EB - I just put in a whole catback system though, and the problem was happening before/after that...I also looked over the exhaust when they had it up on the stand and didn't see anything wrong...

to check your fuild front and rear... you have to find the plug on your pumpkins.... if you were wheeling and had your vent hoses under water it could be heating up you front/rear ends...... find your plugs and take them out.... stick something down inside the pumpkins... if your gear oil is whiteish greyish.... like milky.... there is water mixed in... causing it to boil and making the noise... your can either change your gear oil.... by taking off the pumpkins..... or going to your local parts store and buying a pump... and pumping out the fluid that is allready there.... and replacing it with some crappy 90 weight gear oil.... running that for a little bit.... and then pumping it out and do a final change with synth fluids... it something you should check now to save you fomr a bigger bill later... ( i just bought a pump today ) i had to leave my X in a ocean of a puddel on saturday night... and changing all my fluids.... hope this helps....

whistler

My '92 makes the same sound. Mine seems to be more intense during warm weather. I think its the gas tank vent, and that the increase in sound and length of it is an increase in pressure from higher outside temperatures. I also can smell gas in this area during this time. I plan to check mine out in the near future, but if you find the problem first, get back to me. I'll do the same. Exploder???? Hope not!
