I am seeing people with white clusters and was wondering where you can get them? How much they cost? and are they LED? Please let me know.

LKQ once in a while, eBay, etc...

Online they go for $40-$75 it seems.

Not LED

i got a set of gauge overlays from speedhut.com two years ago. you can design your own face, with what ever colors you want on it, and backgrounds. it has its own power source. the only thing that you would need lights for it for your needles, and numbers on your speedo.

JoeDirt. thanks for the idea? Are they direct fit? Did they offer these original? I have no prob tearing that apart, I have before to replace bulbs. What do I ask them at LKQ? Do you have white clusters for ford explorer?

I scooped the white overlays and red needles off a cluster from a '01+ Sport and put it on my '99 Eddie Bauer. Others have done that same or simply swapped the entire cluster into their trucks.

This was the job I did on my old '00 Sport. I transferred the overlays/needles 4 years ago to my '99 EB.

They are a direct fit, but you may have some warning lights to re-run wiring for (move pins) in the cluster. On my '95, I had to swap some gauges as well, but the gauges should be ok to plug and play on your '97 for operation.

If you don't care that the fuel reset light comes on instead of the door ajar light when you open a door, you can drop them in directly.

They were only offered factory in the 01+ Sport.

You can either go to the desk and ask for a 2001+ Explorer Sport gauge cluster, or go to the self serve yard next door and see if they have one. But, you'll need to hit the truck no more than a day after it hits the yard, as they go fast.

I may have a complete set in my garage, I do think I have a spare cluster. I'll have to check, you're local too... :)

Joe Dirt, thanks for replying. Would be cool if you checked if you had any! I did see some on ebay for OVERLAYS. Can you check those out for me and see what you think? Also, what do the clusters cost from dealer????Lots of $$$? I have also seen some peeps on EXforum doing LED conversions. You seem to know your stuff. I did check speehut.com and they have some cool crap! If its gonna cost me a lot from a dealer I would just rather spend my $$ on speedhut and get it custom!

It would be ridiculously expensive from the dealer. When I was at the dealer the other day a lady was having problems with her cluster going dark intermittently on her Gen III Ex, and they quoted her $500-ish to replace it. I'd imagine they want $250 for the cluster.

The one I have (if it's still there) is a junked 2002 Sport cluster, the cluster is fine- just removed. It is actually in my OBD-I code reading video in the bottom of my signature if you'd like to see it. If I still have it (I have no idea why I can't remember if I have it or not, I may have given it to the guy when I sold my other Ex) I'm sure you'd get it for not much at all... :)

I'll check it out when I get home from work...

One thing- the white gauges are lighted green, not blue like the current dash lights on your '97. I swapped my colors to green since I didn't care for the blue. So, if you don't care, you'll have blue dash lights for everything else, and a green cluster. Or, you can swap to green, it's not that difficult- pretty easy, actually. The Speedhut gauges can be swapped for color if I'm not mistaken. I just like the way the stock gauges look vs. the aftermarket ones, but that's personal preference.

I do actually think mine lights up green! I could be wrong but I think it does. Wife has right now at work. I have to drive the Chevy ASSteroid to take kids to school. Hate that thing. Also, can you help me convince my wife that she is hammering on it? I get about 78-82 miles out of the first quarter tank of gas. She gets 51! That is a huge difference. I don't think I drive it hard! she says to me. But the gas gauge tells me different.

Eh, gauges. Can't much go by those. My old Ex would go 100 miles before it moved, this one is at 3/4 tank after 100 miles, but the mileage is correct. I'd do the math on a tank of her foot vs. a tank of your foot using the odometer and the amount of fuel refilled with. :)

The lights will be an aqua color vs. a very apparent green like the newer cars... They switched to green in 1998.

Crap- They're gone. I mentally phased out- I did give them to the new owner of my old Ex, the beloved Snowball... :(

I paid $40 for one on eBay a few years ago. I don't think Pete (Corkey) paid much more than that for one on eBay after I pointed him in the direction of one a little while ago. Brand new, they'd be stupid expensive. Who needs brand new? ;)

yeah , i got a great set of white face guages off ebay for like 37 $, from LKQ, in canada

Thanks Joe corky and celly. I will get on that one. I think I can mange to squeeze 40-50 outta the bank account without the wife having too big of a cow! I remember being single.. i could just go buy whatever the heck I wanted! what was I thinking?...Oh yeah thats right!! LOL

How do the gauges look at night? pic?

Would a Sport Trac cluster swap directly into a 2000 Limited or would I have to modify a few things?

They light up sort of green. I prefer the look to stock black faced gauges. Sorry, no pics handy.
