So, yesterday I experienced performance problems driving to work in my 91-Sport. It kept stalling and running like it was going to run out of gas. (just fueled up the day before)
Then I started getting LOADS of white smoke and GAS COMING OUT OF MY TAILPIPE!!
I've heard everything from clean the fuel filter to I have a cracked block and I'm totaled.

HELP!!!

white smoke means coolant is leaking into the combustion chamber, the 1st gens liked to crack heads and cause your symptoms

It's a rebuilt engine from a 99' explorer. Less than 50k miles.

You sure it was gas out the tailpipe? Usually that would result in a backfire...

If it is for sure gas, and the engine's stalling like it's not getting fuel, maybe it's getting fuel but isn't firing.

I guess I could check the spark plugs. I tested the fuel injectors and they were all getting power and spraying so that's not likely the problem (unless one is stuck open and flooding the system).

That or maybe spark is jumping to somewhere it shouldn't - check for arcs when it's dark outside.

That is a good tip.

That or maybe spark is jumping to somewhere it shouldn't - check for arcs when it's dark outside.

The same thing was happening to me. Look for a hairline crack in the porcelain on the spark plugs or possibly a burned plug wire.

water will help find a bad plug wire, just a spray bottle with a fine mist. when the wires get wet you will see the arcing and may notice a hard miss until it dries

got it guys.
My fuel pressure regulator went out so I was dumping fuel into my engine at an ungodly rate. It also caused my engine brake assist to fail, so I replaced both.
