White smoke from exaust and oil!

Forgive a newbie to automotive repair, but what would cause white smoke to come out of the exaust and oil to drip from it as well?

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. basicaly the antifreeze is mixing with the oil. This is not good, and not a cheap fix. if it has been this way for a long time you will most likely have to rebuild the whole motor.

Not long. It started about a month ago and it's been sitting there ever since.

Would Chilton's manual be helpful in doing this repair? I have plenty of time for it and would like to try it myself.
