I bought one with this problem because I knew how to fix it.
Does it have an auto trans? If the vacuum modulator goes bad it will suck a small amount of fluid through the vacuum line into the engine. It will run fine but smoke. Yes white but won't disipate as fast as water. That was two years ago. Also if it's a high altitude package it uses a different modulator. Mine came from Colorado but I live in Western Washington so I changed it to a standard. Hope this helps somebody.
