i looked through truckperformance.com and saw a b&m shift kit for my 5.0 -- do any of you know if this is an electronic one or an internal one? truckperformance is charging around 70 bucks for it.
Just toupdate. I installed my auxiliary tranny cooler a while back. It was areally easy install. the stock tranny cooler being there made it even easier. Took about 20 minutes or so.
just confirming that the early model 5.0s like my 96 AWD still has a 4R70W trans correct?
also, my truck absolutely refuses to shift down to first, unless i come to a complete stop. would a shift kit or a power programmer be a better way to go, if you have comments i appreciate it!
all the v8 explorers have a varieation of the same transmision. the shift kit i sell will work on all of them. including the 4.6 and all 5.0 explorers no matter whether they are 4x4 or not.i hope this helps out some.

I know you meant that the shift kit works on all of the 5.0 explorers and the 4.6 mustang that have the 4R70W trannies in them. But as for the 4.6 liter explorers having the 5 speed auto 5R55W and not the 4R70W tranny, I just wanted to clarify that we didnt have any crossed wires here. So did you also mean to say that the same Baumann shift kit made for the 4R70W and other AOD-E trannies will work with the 5 speed 5R55W trannies in the new explorers???
i am not shure on that one but i will check. at least you got what i meant, also a conversion i am shure can be done if there is a problem with trans blowing up under the power increase. i sell a supercharger kit for the 4.6 explorers as well as a reflashed computer if any one is intersted. i will also let you know about the shift kit but a reflash should also help there too.
i checked and no there is nothing avalible for that trans. i do know a tranny guy who made his own billet valve body for his for increased line pressure but the best way to make it shift better is to send me your computer and i will reflash it for you with a performance file and make it shift harder. i can up the voltege and line pressure through the computer on your truck.
Just wondering out loud here. What I want to know is that the 2005 mustang GT's have a newly designed (from my understanding) 5 speed auto transmission. I am wondering if it shares anything or is a direct match with the 02+ explorers 5 speed auto trannies? I mean if not then the 4R70W swap into the new gen explorer will always work. But for ease and cost, if the trannies are the same then being that there will actually be a performance aftermarket designed for those cars maybe we will be able to reap the benefits just as we did with the 5.0 explorers and the old GT stangs. Anyone else have any thoughts?
"For the first time, Mustang is available with a five-speed automatic transmission.
The 5R55S automatic, also used in the Lincoln LS and Ford Thunderbird, has closely spaced ratios that keep the engine in its power band to produce better acceleration, with a wide ratio that provides remarkably good highway fuel economy. The new powertrain control computer delivers benefits in the transmission, as well as the engine, by precisely controlling shift duration and shift timing. Throttle position, engine speed, load, environmental factors and other parameters guide the transmission shift schedule. "
i think a swap will be in order although if you want to work with want you got i am shure i can build some thing up and with the right computer work it should shift fine. if you have to a tranny out of a XKR would be in order.
My problem will not be just shift speed. It will be breakage. Heck even with the KB set on 9 lbs if I decided to run slicks there would be alot of issues with the stock tranny holding up. And being that the plans is to still go with a built stroker longblock with ported/cammed heads and then the KB pullied to 14 or 15 lbs then there will be alot further issues to dive into. But I still got another 1 1/2 years till I can come back to the states to even begin this project so I got plenty of planning adjustment time.
