Just as the title says, does anyone know what size fuel line 4th gen explorers use? I know ford uses 3/8th or 5/16. I just replaced my fuel and I used 3/8 and it runs fine with it but I’ve been having hard start issues and am wondering if I need to down size to a 5/16th line. I’m wondering if having more fuel in the line is causing like a vapor lock issue. I’m waiting for some heat wrap that I’m going to put over the line tomorrow.

Vapor Lock occurs when the fuel gets hot enough to BOIL, thereby creating liquidless areas of gas. At the pressures used with efi systems, vapor lock is a thing of the past. If design parameters are not messed-with.

Heat wrap would help only if the temperature of the area surrounding the fuel line is HIGHER than the contained fuel temperature.

Does this only happen when the motor is hot?
It’s been at Ford the last couple of days, they finally figured it out today. Turns out my vent valve solenoid was stuck open causing the hard start. Part will be in tomorrow and hopefully that’ll be it, they seem pretty confident. I replaced that part 2 years ago with a Standard Motor Products replacement part so it didn’t even dawn on me to check it. I would get my vehicle from the dealer and replace it myself because it’s such an easy part to replace but I feel like I need to throw them a bone for figuring it out lol. I had it at another shop that replaced my fuel pump last December and I figured it was the pump again, they even thought so too so they replaced it again under warranty. Worked great for a week and then was hard starting again. They eventually concluded that my computer was missing an update and that I needed to take it to Ford. As it turns out the update wasn’t what was needed.
