I have a lowered 96 AWD explorer.

I had to loosen the torsion bars to lower it but really hate the way it rides..... by loosening the torsion bars it dropped the rate of the "spring" making it mushy...

does any company make coil over shocks that fit an explorer that I could bolt on..... either to add to my existing "spring (torsion)" raitng or remove mt torsion bars all together and install the coil over spring?????

thanks

I highly doubt theres any bolt on coilovers for the X.

But like anything else, with the right amount of money, anything is possible.

I would interested to know more about this too.

there are none. i checked into this a while back; i have the same prob. too. (i hate the dropped ride quality). it can be done, you will just have to fab some mounts. be sure to get the coils @ a LOW spring rate to compliment the bars. anything else and it will be very stiff...

I have seen at auto parts stores the overload spring that goes over the shock body. It has collars that you bolt on to hold the spring in place.
Look at Pep Boys or Advance Auto. They are usually in the section with the add-a-leafs and shackles. I was looking at them to maybe put on my dune buggy. It's kind of like a do-it-yourself coil-over kit...it's pretty cheap so may be worth a try.
Check out some Dune buggy sites or magazines...they pretty much all run coil-overs on them.

the autozone coil doesnt work. i helped a friend put these on the front and the collars will not stay put. no matter how tight you get them (we finally tightened them enough that they crushed the shock body) over a short period of time they just slide down, letting the coil just sit there unloaded. sorry.

How about a couple tack welds? The top and bottom of the shock seem thick enough that you wouldn't crush them. The body is thinner and I can see that crushing.
The only other suggestion would be air bag suspension.

Bilstien does but you have to measure to fit. They are not specfic on the make/model. So measure lenght expanded and collapsed. then goto the web site. They are high though like 199+. per.
