I've been replacing all the weather seals on my Ex, but having a heck of a time finding one for the lift gate. Every place I've checked online so far shows the seal, but says it's no longer available.

I'm starting to think I'll need to use a more universal seal, and am wondering if anyone has replaced theirs with one that has a different shape to it, but still works? The stock one has circular foam seal on the bottom of the u-shaped channel, then a half circle foam seal running along the side. I've found a similar design from Fairchild or Steele, but the dimensions on those are too small.

Anyone use a different design that still works effectively? This seal is looking so I really need to replace it.

LMC might have it...you check with them? Last time I looked through their catalog (before it went to online only) they had all the seals for the 1st gen...

I'll check with LMC again, but they didn't have it when I checked a couple weeks ago.

Here is a Fairchild offering of the same design, but smaller dimensions. I'm not able to find one with bigger measurements, so wondering if anyone has tried a different design that works as well as stock?

Pretty sure the liftgate seal is the same on 91-2001 Explorers, so you can just find one in great shape at a salvage yard and use that, or get one from a dealer, just ask what liftgate seals they have for any Explorers. Even the seals for the liftgates on 2001-2005 models might work fine.

Heck, the liftgate seals for Expeditions or even Excursions might be the same seal and just something you can cut to a shorter length to fit, of course bringing the ends together at the bottom in the center.

I'd also guess that the liftgate seals for many other SUVs and even minivans, and possibly even regular cargo vans would work.
