Who says us V6 guys cant have an electric water pump?

you dont want a really high flow rate, you could burn up your motor since the water wouldnt get a chance to grab or release the heat. like if you were to remove the thermostat you could actually burn your motor up since the thermostat is a necesary restriction. the flow rate on a remote electric is set, constant. maybe it flows more at idle than the oem pump does, and maybe it doesnt flow as much at 6000rpm, but who stays there for long anyways?

Gotta disagree with that. The thermostat isn't there just so your feet get warm in the winter ... the engine, sensors and computer are all designed for the engine to run at a specific temperature (narrow range) without a thermostat to maintain that temp range the computer is constantly adjusting things. Plus you'll be cause extra wear on all your moving parts with the temperature swinging hot and cold all the time causing everything to keep expanding and contracting.
 












I dont think that you will actually burn the motor but removing the t stat will cause the engine to run in warmup mode longer/all the time and you will be wasting gas and emissions will be high.
 






Ok people lets think about this. When the t-stat opens the temp gauge goes down and the engine temp gets cooler. Your car will not "burn up", if anything it will just get crappy milage cuz it's not running at optimal temperatures.

This is why they make "fail-safe" t-stats. When they fail, they stay open and your car runs cool instead of staying closed and overheating your engine.
 






Don't get me wrong, I am very much in favor of an electric pump and will have one installed before long, but to play Devil's Advocate ....

Yes it is conceivable an electric water pump can give you more HP than a underdrive pulleys set BUT there are some issues you should consider before you make that commitment. Your HP gain with an electric pump may not be as much as you think, in a recent test Hot Rod Magazine ran our performance ratios pulleys on a small block Chevy (alternator, water pump only) and to their surprise our pulleys only made 1 HP less then a electric water pump set-up. You should also consider that electric kits flow even less water then a underdrive pulley kit and that could cause cooling problems. <<

If what he is saying is true about the throughput of an electric pump, you should take great caution. Look into exactly what the differences are between an electric and mechanical pump from all angles, especially throughput.

Less water flow is definately not a good thing, especially for someone who is interrested in modding their truck with performance in mind. With performance mods, if anything, I would want more coolant flowing through the motor to ensure my car is running at the correct temperatures. Especially in the case where I am in a traffic jam, so as not to burn up all the $$$ I have dumped into the engine. I don't look at my temp gauge every 5min and I don't want to feel nervious if I don't.

To me 11hp is not a significant reason to spend the money or time installing this pump if it is going to cost you a loss in longevity, reliability and flow.

Just my $.02 take it for what you will.
 






My interest, at least the major one, in an electric pump is gas mileage.
