Who's Made Their Own Exhaust?

I want to fab my own custom exhaust from pre-bent stuff I have laying around. Problem is, I only have a 230V arc welder, which would punch holes in the thin piping. Can I braze the stuff together? Maybe turn the welder down to 30A with a real light duty rod? I want to do it well so that it lasts.

Well, we used to use acetylene. But that is days gone by. Now it's all done with a MIG.

i've miged mine. only got the down pipes and pre cats as factory. every thing else is replaced

MIG seems to be the way to go... I just hate paying other people to do work on the rig. Is there any arc rods that are light enough for exhaust work?

If you have the outfit to braze it, then braze away. There are 1/16" electrodes and that is probably the smallest you will find (turn down the welder and practice first):

You probably will not be able to sustain an arc w/o blowing through so you'll probably have to do like a fraction of an inch, stop, let it cool, and then continue (a PITA).

Thanks IZ, I've got some 1013 rods already, so I guess I'll give 'em a try. I've also got a propane torch, so I can try some brazing too and see which way works best. Ha, either that or I'll just go find Section, I think he's got the month off and I know he has a MIG!
