I sold my 2003 Mountaineer last summer of which had some mods. I was at the dealer and took out a new 07' Mountaineer 2wd, it didn't feel any stronger as my 2003 did when it was stock let alone with mods. I was suprised, felt more like I was driving a V6. Friend has an 06' w/ exhaust and intake and I thought the same thing, just has a slow/sluggish feel to it, my 2003 was definitley sharper in response and acceleration back when it was stock.

I searched and saw others on here say the same thing when they went from a 3rd Gen V8 to a 4th gen V8?

I've only had my 06 for a few weeks and have noticed the same. From reading this forum, it sounds like the main problem is the drive-by-wire throttle body and associated "delay". I'm hoping to get an aftermarket PCM tool soon and see if it helps.

I agree with gh67. its probably the drive by wire. When i bought my 06 V8 it felt more sluggish then my 98 sport V6. After having it tunned, it brought it back to life. the difference was like day and night.

its sluggish because of the 3.55 rear. Previous generations had 3.73 or even 4.10 rears.

funny, when I was driving today I thought that the shift points would feel better if a little higher in the power curve with 3.73's.....especially 6th gear which is just about worthless in my opinion.

It's funny to read about this now after test driving one of the '07 V8's the other day... I had the same thought! I had previously driven an '02 V8 EB which "felt" a lot more powerful.

I have an '06 2wd Limited and I don't think it's sluggist at all. I can burn rubber from a stop light, what more do I need? :D

wow...lucky you! Do you know the approximate build date of your truck?

Er, how would I find this out, do you know?

I bought it April '06.

Ford Oasis printout can tell you or something like Carfax would have it. The only reason I ask is because I noticed some of the TSB's are only for trucks prior to May 06 build....though sounds like yours is definitely before that and is doing great.
