I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, when shifting from 2nd to third, the rpms go high then it slams into gear, I have replaced the tranny already but to no avail. I was told it is because of the speed controller, something that tells the tranny when to shift, but i cant find it nor anything about it on the internet....can someone please help.......

what kind of "slam" and what information was provided about the transmission that was put into your 2000?

How many miles on the new transmission?

Was it a full rebuild?? a valve body rebuild??

Did they put in a shift kit??

Where did you get the “new” transmission??

its not a hard slam, the rpms go up then it finally goes into third, but its not the normal shift....the tranny was from a wrecked 00 explorer, worked fine before and after the wreck. I got it at a local junk yard, total miles on the tranny are 138,000. But this happened before i replaced the tranny...so it cant be coincedence that it happens with this one. the total miles on the explorer are 162,345 it was a fleet vehicle and i needed a vehicle quick so i got it at an auction for like 3400.....but other than the shifting prob, its a great suv...there was no shift kit put in that i know of....then today it died on the way to work, had to restart the car to make it go again, the engine was running but like it was in neutral. And its more like a hestation than a slam, I stand corrected, but it also shudders when going into reverse and sometimes when you put into drive...please any help will be greatly appreciated

weird **** also.

thats weird.. i have a 99 ford explorer sport, that used to be a fleet vehicle as well. it shifts the exact same way as urs does.. coincedence? i dunno but weird. i bout mine for about the saqme price but mine only had 98,002 miles on it...

I had the same problem...i unhooked the negative terminal and i was a temporary fix (2 weeks)...now its sitting at home..im not too sure if someone finds uout please post and let me know what i need to do . thx
