Why does the engine HAVE to be running to do the 3.2.2 upgrade??

That is a serious waste of gas...one of which I am not going to do anytime soon unless Ford wants to reimburse me for the gas!

This is absolutely STUPID in light of today's gas prices!

Seriously? You want them to reimburse you a few dollars? Unless the update took three or four hours, the average fuel consumption for a v6 is about .3gal/hr. If you have the 4 cylinder, it's even less, at around .2-.25 an hour. Gas is about 3.59 a gallon around me for 87 octane, 3.79 for 91. So you at most are going to spend 6 dollars if you use premium, idle it for four hours, and use .4gal/hr at idle.

Upgrade while you are driving. Not sure why you think you have to be sitting still. You don't.

The reason is they don't want the battery saver feature to kick in and cut power to the system during the update.

You won't have MFT use during. Not an issue. Takes 40 minutes.

Dr plastic, you should have bought a explorer with out mft or my be a bicycle, just look what if ford were to charge for the upgrade it would be more than the $ 2.oo you will use up on gas, so stay in the stone age.

Mine took only 30 mins and works great!!! there is a lot of operator head space and timming issues here...in other words many technological challenge people messing with new technology. For example my dealer told me when i asked if the system was updated ...they told me yes!!! bananas!!! It still had the 3.0.2 update and was not updating anything, no weather maps no gas prices nothing!!! I had to figure out myself!!! I think that is part of the problem, product knowledge from part of the sales force!!!
