Today while i was spraying some wd 40 on my radius arm bushing to quiet them until i can get them replace I grabbed onto the transmission and it was fairly hot. I figured it would get warm with use but it must have been extremely hot because when i felt it, it had not been run in about 2hrs. So I'm wondering if this is normal and if it isn't, is there anything i can do to help the problem

It should be ok. Double check the engine to make sure everything on that end is ok. Also, check trans fluid level/condition.

It is bolted to your engine which become very hot when operating, so I guess the heat is passed from the engine block to the tranny - metals are very good conductors of heat.

For your own peace of mind, get an Auxiliary Tranny Cooler. It will do nothing but cool your tranny oil so you could sleep better at night. But then again, Nightquill will do the same and its cheaper. :D (sorry for the jokes, can't help it)

Are we talking about a manual tranny or an auto trans?

I think he is talking about a 5spd manual trans. Its more difficult to add a cooler to a manual trans because you need to pump the fluid out somehow. Not very practical, but it has been discussed:

Manual Trans Cooler

Good point, dogfriend. I missed the manual tranny part. :) must be the nightquill
