why is my tranny fluid soooo thin? help?

Backround: 82,000 miles now
i did a tranny fillter and gasket with a flush 5,000 miles ago

and the other day my tranny started to make a rattleing sound when i puched it, (to pass) after it warmed up for 50 miles or so

i checked the fluid, it was full and clean but thin and very very light pink-clear, like you know the pink saran*sp wrap you get around Easter time, it was that clear.

what do i do now???
Is it bad??
another flush?
thanks charlie

What you are explaining sounds like uncontamined, fresh ATF. It sounds OK.

Just curious when you flushed it, did you flush it with trans fluid or something else?

If something else did you get it all out?

i flushed it with 3 gallons of mercon/dextron III, i disconnected the AUX. tranny cooler, with one end going into a bucket while my grandpa started and stopped as needed as i poured the ATF in the top using my gas can pourer neck, which worked perfect took 5 min

Just a nit pick :D there is no Mercon III. It's Mercon/Dextron III. The only types of Mercon fluid are Mercon or Mercon V.

;)

sounds like the tranny got lots of water in it. Change the fluid as soon as possible completely. I'd do a pan drop and full flush. Hopefully the tranny will be ok.

Wouldn't water make it rather foamy? As opposed to a clearinh liquid? Water wouldn't really dilute transmission fluid....?

water makes tranny fluid pink and milky. tranny maintenance 101.

UPDATE:

well this morning i checked the fluid again, it was thickier and pinkier, then it was.

Alec, i do not think it has water in it, b/c i thought it should look like a pink milkshake, which it does not and the level was perfect

also i was under a yellow light, it was night time.

i still am going to do a flush Wednesday or thursday my days off.

Am I missing something? You're hoping for the fluid to get darker! Sounds like it is starting to pick up a little dirt. New fluid shouldn't have that much color on the dipstick. On being thinner, I read that most tranny fluid is signifigantly thinner now when cool than it was just 5 years ago because of improvements.

I agree with these guys, last time I did a tranny fluid change mine looked like what your describing after a few days it darkened up.
