so ,latley ive noticed my truck makes a odd sound. while im accelerating, no matter if its floored or barly going, it makes this sound like someone has a dime in a beer bottle and its rattling around, sounds just like it. i cant figure it out. is it harmful, anyone know what to do to stop it. it didnt do it until randomly the other day and now its constant. ive searched for loose **** around motor but dont see it. please help

Can a dime go in a beer bottle?

Anyway, if it's when you are accelerating, it could be pre-ignition knock. Pull off the octane jumper and see if it goes away. If so, then there's a good list of stuff that causes it. Unfortunately, you can't just run without the jumper because it'll trash your mileage and performance, but it's a test.

The jumper is on the end of a cable behind the power distribution box under the hood. I'm gone for the night, just thought I would throw in a quick word or two.

Good Luck!

Seems that usually rattles on acceleration around here are the engine pinging.

Now if you are hearing a higher pitched ping/ting, could possibly be what I had... my engine would make a tingtingting noise from a cold start when I accelerated, which went away after a couple minutes of driving. Found my valve cover bolts were all very loose and tightening them up made the noise go away. No idea why.

No unusual rattling is good. Is it a consistent sound and moves with the rpm's? Do you have the SOHC or OHV motor?
