i have a dilemma i picked up a 5.0 liter ho from a mustang and am attempting to place it under the hood of my explorer in doing so i intend to buy a parts truck (fuel injected 5.0 f150) i need to know if A: does my trasfer case form my 93 explorer fit the AOD transmission and B: can i use a tranny from a 4x2 truck (unbolt tail housing and bolt on my t case) or do i need to get a 4x4 truck in order to make it all work. also will 3in of body lift be enough to clear the transmissions bell housing. thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. please do not reffer me to the search button i tried and found it very hard to sort out the threads that have nothing to do with my problem from the ones i need to read. also if there is a link for this swap into my truck please forward me to it i would love to read it. i also tried to search this and only found it for rangers and newer ex's.

You transfer case will not bolt to the AOD without an adapter, which, the tranny will need to be torn apart to install. Also, the same goes for the 4wd extension on your 2wd tranny.

So you can tear the tranny down, install a $500+ adapter, along with the 4wd extension. Or you can run a AOD friendly tcase like the 1356, 4406, or a gajillion others.

Are you trying to keep your push-button 4wd?

i dont have to i just wasent looking forward to cutting the hole in my floor i actually prefer the manual stick t cases which one of thouse cases do you suggest or should i just use the one from the parts truck also how will the drive shafts work (or wont they)
